BROWNSVILLE — An early morning fire in a Brownsville apartment has left two children in critical condition, officials said.

FDNY sent 12 units to respond to the blaze at 373 Blake Ave. early Saturday. After arriving at 2:46 a.m., they had placed the fire under control by 3:25 a.m.

The children, who were siblings, a girl aged 3 and a boy, 4, the NY Post reported, were taken to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition caused by smoke inhalation. Another adult received minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

Two other children escaped the second-floor unit's blaze, according to the Post, boys aged 11 and 15.

The FDNY is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
