UPPER EAST SIDE — A new Eli Zabar outpost is slated to open on a tony stretch of Madison Avenue, according to a company sign posted in the window and a neighbor.

The gourmet grocery, which will be located at 922 Madison Ave., at East 73rd Street, is an "Eli's Essentials," meaning it will have more of a deli and takeout vibe than some other restaurant-centric stores in the company.

This "Essentials" takes the place of a similar store located across the street at 939 Madison Ave., which recently closed, a neighbor said.

Essentials will occupy a now-defunct "artistic" jeweler, an old business sign indicates.

Officials at Eli Zabar were not immediately available for comment.

But Barbara Cadic, general manager of the Lanciani Travel Jewelry flagship next door, said the sign, which reads "RETURNING TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD!!!," appeared several months ago.

Cadic thinks the new "Essentials" will be as much an asset to the community as the old shop, which closed in late 2012, she said.

She expects "a lot of limos" will drop off their clients at the door, who will slip in and out to pick up ready-made meals, she said.

"I'm very excited about it," she said. "Business-wise, it will bring in people."
