LONG ISLAND CITY — Party-goers will pack the courtyard at MoMA PS1 on Saturday for the kickoff of the museum's annual 'Warm Up,' summer concert series — weekly outdoor dance parties that feature live performances from both big and small-named bands and DJs.
The series, in its 16th year, draws thousands of revelers to the Long Island City museum each weekend and showcases musical artists from across the globe.
"Warm Up supports both established and emerging artists by creating a platform that allows for experimentation and provides a space for collaboration, new material, and side-projects," MoMA PS1 said in an announcement of this year's lineup.
Saturday's show will feature a series of artists from the Berlin-based experimental record label PAN, and Detroit techno pioneer Juan Atkins.
This year's roster of Warm Up parties will be set against the "Party Wall," a temporary art installation set up in the MoMA PS1 courtyard that's made from wooden scraps left over from manufacturing skateboards.
The giant pavilion, which includes seating and cooling pools of water for visitors, was designed by architect Caroline O'Donnell of the firm CODA and selected as the winner of MoMA PS1's Young Architects Program.
Editor's Note: MoMA PS1's Warm Up summer concerts will run every Saturday from June 29 to Sept. 7, from 3 to 9 p.m. in the museum's courtyard. Tickets are $15 in advance, or $18 at the door.
