DITMARS — Forget Macy's Fourth of July celebration — Queens has its own spectacular fireworks display.

The annual show takes place every summer the week before July 4th, lighting up the sky above the East River and Astoria Park as part of the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition's annual Independence Day celebration.

This year's display will take place June 24 starting at 7:30 p.m. in Astoria Park, and will feature a performance by the Queens Symphony Orchestra on the park's great lawn, near Shore Boulevard between the Hell Gate Bridge and the Astoria Park Pool.

Starting at 6 p.m., the local chapter of advocacy group Moms Demand Action will be hosting free arts and crafts activities for kids just inside the park, at 19th Street and 23rd Road.

The big show starts after sundown and features fireworks from the legendary Grucci family.

The event was scheduled to take place rain or shine.
