LOWER EAST SIDE — A man stole a laptop from the office of the Top Hops Beer Shop on the Lower East Side earlier this month, police and the store's owner said.

The suspect walked into the beer shop at 94 Orchard St. about 4:30 p.m. June 2, according to police and store owner Edward Kenny, 44, who wasn't there at the time but later saw the security footage.

The suspect carried a white Duane Reade bag and walked straight to the back of the shop, entering the office, Kenny said. About four minutes later, he came out with the laptop in the white bag and left the store, Kenny said.

Employees didn't realize they had been robbed until 10 p.m.

The computer, a three-year-old Toshiba, was the only stolen item, Kenny said. Kenny originally bought it for about $1,000 but was able to replace it for $300. The computer contained menus, contact lists and emails but nothing that cannot be replaced, Kenny said.

"Luckily our point of sale system is not hooked up [to the computer] so I didn't lose anything like that," he said. "No one's credit card information was ever at risk."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
