ASTORIA — A Queens-based company is taking neighborhood foodies on a tasting tour of Astoria's best ethnic restaurants and markets.

Food tour company Nom and the City is hosting the Culture Crawl, which will walk residents through the neighborhood to sample treats from its diverse roster of eateries on June 23.

"We wanted to do something that was more than just your average food tour," said Kate Forster, 33, who heads the social media company Red Currant Media and is collaborating with Nom and the City founder Meredith Adams, 28, to plan the event.

"Really exploring the different cultures was important to us," she said.

The $80 tour starts at the Shady Lady, which opened this spring at 34-29 30th Ave. with a focus on globally inspired comfort food. Participants will get to sip on some of the restaurant's signature cocktails.

Tour-takers will then visit Titan Foods at 25-56 31st St., a Greek and Mediterranean market where they can snack on feta, olives and flaky baked goods, followed by a stop at the Souvlaki King, a street cart at 31st Street and 31st Avenue known for its gyros.

Then it's off to Balkan eatery Djerdan at 34-04 31st Ave. to taste burek — pies made from Phyllo pastry dough — followed by a visit to The Thirsty Koala, an Australian restaurant at 35-12 Ditmars Blvd., for a wine tasting and Pavlova, a meringue cake.

"I know the people that come on our tour are going to have so much fun, and be so full," Forster said.

The crawl ends with a tour of Astoria brewery SingleCut Beersmiths, which will be followed by an after-party for participants to mix and mingle.

"That’s one of the main goals — to help build a foodie community in Queens," Forster said, saying Astoria is poised to become one of the city's best culinary neighborhoods.

"The food scene is blowing up," she said. "We're on the verge of a food explosion here."
