BENSONHURST — A high school student was stabbed to death outside his apartment building in Brooklyn Sunday night, police said.
Kenny Chen, a 17-year-old student at Murray Bergtraum High School in Lower Manhattan, was reportedly lured from his home with a phone call before he was stabbed in the torso and left in an alley to die, according to the New York Post.
His body was found at the corner of Benson Avenue and 26th Avenue at 3:46 a.m., police said. He was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, they said.
Police said they did not have any arrests by Monday morning.
Betty Chen, the victim's sister, said she noticed a police car in front of their home after passing by the crime scene about 5:20 a.m., she said.
"I just had this awful feeling when I saw the cop car in front of the house that it had to be my brother," she said.
The teen had been stabbed on his left side, police told Chen and her family, she said.
"It was the worst feeling in the world to come home to," she said.
Chen's ex-girlfriend, 16-year-old Karmen Chiu, was emotional as she remembered him as "a very sweet guy."
"I don't understand why someone would do this," she said, as she left a bouquet of flowers at the memorial on Monday afternoon.
"He was a big brother to everyone," said Susan Liu, 16, who knew Chen in middle school. "[He] had everyone's back."
