WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A food truck that's been doling out empanadas to hungry fans in Midtown has made its way to a new site uptown — and the owner hopes to urge other vendors to sell in the area too.

Nuchas Artisan Hand-Held Foods truck has been taking up residence on West 168th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue each Tuesday, serving up empanadas in flavors including short ribs, spicy chicken, and jambalaya to customers in front of New York Presbyterian Hospital.

The truck expects to return to Washington Heights every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nuchas owner Ariel Barbouth said the truck first arrived in the area in mid-May, when they drove up to West 168th Street to film a segment for Univision. While they only intended to stay for a little while, Barbouth said the crew fell in love with the location.

"We drove up here and we loved it," Barbouth said."We came only for an interview and then we stayed around."

Nuchas began slinging food from stands four years ago. Last year, they opened a booth in Times Square, where they serve up empanadas with Indian, Argentinian and Southern twists for $3.

Since finding the area, Barbouth said he's been in discussions with other Food Truck Association members about bring other trucks to the area to cover other weekdays.

"Maybe we can get maybe a grilled cheese truck, maybe a Koreantown truck, a dumpling truck," Barbouth said. "So we can do something fun, bring something to Washington Heights and hopefully entertain people a little bit."
