WEST BRIGHTON — About 4,000 Con Edison customers in West Brighton were without power on Tuesday afternoon, when a circuit breaker opened automatically, a spokesman for the company said.

The company said the outages happened close to 1 p.m., and by 3 p.m. they had already restored power to nearly 1,000 customers.

A circuit will open automatically and shut off power as a safety measure when excess current flows through it.

The area affected by outages was bounded roughly by Richmond Terrace to Forest Avenue and Oakland to Park avenues, the spokesman said.

The company plans to restore power to all customers by 5 p.m.
