PARK SLOPE — The French bakery that was forced to close after Hurricane Sandy is being replaced by a grilled cheese shop.
Almondine, the croissant and baked goods purveyor at 442 Ninth St. off Seventh Avenue, had to close after its DUMBO ovens were damaged in the hurricane. Now Grub Street reports that grilled cheese shop Melt Kraft is taking its place.
Melt Kraft has a Philadelphia location as well and is operated by the people behind Valley Shepherd Creamery, a Seventh Avenue cheese shop that stocks dairy delicacies such as the $12 per pint Jeni's Ice Cream.
The menu at Melt Kraft includes the $8.50 Melter Skelter, made with pickled green tomatoes, jalapeno, barbecue chips and watercress, and the $8.75 Valley Thunder with cheddar cheese, brisket and baked macaroni and cheese.

Stationery chain Paper Source is slated to replace Plaza Cleaners at 87 Seventh Ave. and Union Street, according to Park Slope Stoop.
Gelato shop L'Albero Dei Gelati, which announced in February that it was opening a store at 341 Fifth Ave. and Fourth Street, is now poised to start selling its locally-sourced frozen treats in early June.
Construction has started in the former Moutarde space at 239 Fifth Ave., reported Here's Park Slope. The French bakery chain Le Pain Quotidien is moving into the spot.
