Animal Psychic to Read Pets' Minds at Gramercy Fundraiser

GRAMERCY — Ever wonder how your pooch really feels about the new brand of dog food you switched to?

Now, you can ask him.

Cauz for Pawz, a Gramercy-based thrift store, is hosting a fundraising event on Apr. 28 that offers owners a chance to learn what their pets really think about them by asking a psychic.

“People love their animals more than anything,” said Cathryn Duhigg, founder of the non-profit shop, which gives its proceeds to various animal rescuers in the city. “This is a way for them to feel even closer with their pets.”

During the event, owners can bring their small pets or photos of their pets to get a 15-minute telepathic reading for $15.

Lee Ann LaRocca, a medium based in New Jersey, will be communicating with animals to help owners get to the root of pets’ emotional struggles, said Larocca, who has been practicing animal communication for at least 15 years.

“Sometimes [owners] just want to know if their pets are happy,” she said. “Some people think, ‘Well, it’s just a dog,’ but they would be so shocked to know that animals are telepathic. They have very distinct wants and likes.”

For some pets, the problem is as simple as a dog disliking a change in his lifestyle, LaRocca said.

“One time, a dog was complaining about a new collar,” she said. “[The dog] was very proud of her appearance, and she said she was unhappy with her new collar and preferred her old collar with rhinestones.”

Other times, owners might seek a reading to find out more about a more serious behavioral issue, such as aggression, LaRocca said.

“I work with a certain type of healing to release trauma,” she said. “It’s energy healing…an emotional release technique that’s very effective on animals.”

The effects can be immediate, or it could take several sessions to relieve an animal that’s suffering from trauma, she explained.

Larocca prefers to read animals through photos because the pets are often more relaxed in their own home when their owners take a photo of them. In addition, she said, pets are often distracted by new surroundings and with new people.

She added that she does her readings by looking into a pet's eyes, which can be difficult in person if an animal is skittish around strangers, she noted.

Susan Engstrom, a tarot card reader, will also be available to do animal tarot card readings during the event. Tarot cards focus on an animal’s story, Engstro explained.

“[Through tarot cards,] you can see what they’re feeling, their background history, or what they’re afraid of," Engstrom said. "You can see what they’ve been through.”

The event will be held at Cauz for Pawz, located at 212 E. 23rd St., on Apr. 28, from 1-6 p.m.
