WILLIAMSBURG — Outdoor frolickers found signs of spring this weekend, with three local markets in full bloom for the first time all year.
Smorgasburg food market kicked off Saturday in its new home at East River State Park, with new businesses offering everything from fried chicken-filled biscuits to lobster soup dumplings. More than 100 vendors set up shop at the market from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., including Bolivian Llama Party, Blue Marble Ice Cream and Brooklyn Soda Works, the event's website noted.
Then, on Sunday, Brooklyn Flea was set to unleash more than 250 tables of trinkets, antiques, vintage clothing and even bicycles at the Williamsburg waterfront park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the flea's site said.
Meanwhile, at McGolrick Park's first farmers market of 2013, a handful of fresh seafood and produce vendors will set up from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., organizers noted.
The second year of Down to Earth Markets' weekly Greenpoint event kicked off with new members American Pride Seafood and Stone and Thistle Farm, and will eventually expand to include farms from across the region. And this time the market extends through the end of December to answer a demand for fresh produce throughout the year, local officials said.
“It was common sense to have this market year-round," Assemblyman Joseph Lentol said in the market's announcement. "I am so excited to have it back. Not only did I frequent the market myself, but I know countless people from the community are excited to have access to healthy foods."
