Tree House Made of Sandy-Felled Wood Debuts at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

By Sonja Sharp | April 3, 2013 5:07pm

PROSPECT HEIGHTS — Green waste never looked so good.

Faced with tons of torn-up trees in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden enlisted a team of architects famed for their tree houses to elevate the massive recycling project into an art.

The result is Sandy Remix, a nest-shaped tree house made entirely of reclaimed materials that will make its garden debut this Saturday, April 6, according to Inhabitat.

The Romero Studios' creation is composed of roughly hewn planks of wood from 18 species of tree, combined with material from other Botanic Garden plants.

Though it won't be ready for tea parties or secret clubs when it opens this weekend, Sandy Remix will eventually be outfitted to accommodate visitors large and small.
