Metropolitan Museum of Art Spring Break Party Features Monday Viewings

UPPER EAST SIDE — If you would prefer that spring break didn't involve bikini contests or beer helmets, the Metropolitan Museum of Art might be just the destination for you.

Though the museum is typically closed Mondays, galleries at the Met and the Cloisters will be open on two upcoming Mondays — March 25, 2013 and April 1, 2013 — dates that coincide with many area schools and colleges' spring vacation, officials said in a statement.

“This spring, when parents with children, older students, and teachers are planning special activities for their days off from school, we hope they will remember to visit the Met, where there is always something new to see, or The Cloisters — which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year," Met president
Emily K. Rafferty said in a statement.

Some Met special exhibitions slated to be open for the special Monday viewings include an exhibit on fashion's impact on impressionism and a look at birds in Japanese art, as well as the museum's permanent collections, officials said.

An additional "Holiday Monday" is scheduled at the Museum's main building, 1000 Fifth Ave., and the Cloisters, 99 Margaret Corbin Dr. in Fort Tryon Park, on Memorial Day, May 27, 2013.
