By Jess Wisloski | March 17, 2013 3:44pm

FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A four-alarm fire broke out in a mixed use building minutes before 7 a.m. on Sunday morning, fire officials said.

The blaze engulfed the second and third floors of a five-story commercial and residential building at 138 Fulton St., near Nassau Street, fire officials said.

The fire began at 6:56 a.m., with responders arriving at 7 a.m., officials said. By 7:22 a.m. the flames had reached second-alarm status, and less than an hour later, it was a three-alarm fire.

Firefighters battled heavy smoke conditions, and by 9:05 a.m. the fire had reached four-alarm categorization.

A third-floor ceiling partially collapsed, falling down in the middle of the efforts to put the flames out, the FDNY said.

The FDNY called on 168 firefighters to take down the blaze, which also used 39 units of the force, officials said.

No civilian injuries were reported, the fire department said, but three firefighters were sent to area hospitals for minor injuries. A fire marshal was set to investigate the cause of the blaze on Sunday.
