QUEENS — A Kew Gardens pub will help you get your green on.
The popular Austin’s Steak and Ale House will be offering a special menu this weekend, including Dublin potato soup, Gaelic chicken finished in a Jameson whiskey sauce and a sherry trifle, soaked in Irish whiskey and topped with custard and fresh cream.
“Because the holiday falls over the weekend, and the parade is on Saturday, they decided to begin celebrating early on Thursday,” said Laura Altimari of Components of Fine Taste Culinary Marketing who represents the pub.
Austin’s Ale House, she said, has been serving the Kew Gardens community for 20 years, and “considers St.Patrick's Day one of its most coveted celebrations.”
Starting Thursday, the pub will be serving complimentary corned beef and cabbage at the bar (between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m).
There will also be live music from the Irish band, the Sporting Paddies, on Saturday evening, and on Sunday, Susan Bach, a Brooklyn singer-songwriter, will play a mix of folk, rock, country and blues.
Other traditional Irish dishes served this weekend at Austin’s Ale House will include oven-baked Shepherd's Pie, bangers and mash, which consists of Irish pork sausage and mash with caramelized onion gravy, fish and chips, and pan seared sirloin steak with Irish cheddar cheese shrimp sauce.
On both Saturday and Sunday patrons will have the opportunity to taste a traditional Irish breakfast as well.
The food can be washed down with more than 20 drafts, including many from local breweries, and another 40 bottled beers, both domestic and imported.
