Ft. Greene Start-up Delivers Locally Bought Ingredients to Home Cooks

By Janet Upadhye | March 5, 2013 2:09pm

FORT GREENE — Fort Greene locals no longer have to leave the house to eat Madiba's famous South African bobotie. They can make it at home.

New neighborhood start-up, What's for Supp, partnered with local restaurants and markets to make life a little easier for stay-at-home cooks.

"What's for Supp curates recipes from popular chefs and food bloggers and then makes it super easy for people to order in all the ingredients they need to cook their meal of choice," said founder Adam Winski. "We take the shopping out of cooking."

Winski and his wife Michelle discovered a love for cooking together early in their relationship but finding the time to go out and buy all the ingredients they needed to make dinner after a long day at work was hard.

"We were throwing a lot of stuff away when we did shop, because our schedules were unpredictable and things would sit around and go bad," Adam said. "We had great intentions, but couldn’t really time things right or plan in advance.”

What's for Supp was the couple's answer to their cooking woes. By getting all the ingredients needed delivered to the door from local markets, meals were easier and faster to make.

What's for Supp goes a step beyond simple deliveries. They also showcase rotating recipes from the neighborhood's favorite restaurants. Madiba chef, Mark Henegan and Food Freaks Grilled Cheese truck founder, Steve Cusato, currently have recipes featured.

And for those who want some wine with their meal, What's for Supp will swing by Thirst Wine Merchants and pick up a perfectly paired bottle.

What's for Supp delivers to six zip codes including 11231, 11205, 11201, 11217, 11238 and 11231 with plans to expand based on demand.
