Subway Maintenance Disrupts 17 Lines This Weekend

NEW YORK CITY — Straphangers should set aside extra time for their weekend trips as maintenance work is scheduled for 17 subway lines.

Disruptions on the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, C, D, E, F, G, M, N, Q, R and S began late Friday and will last until early Monday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said.

Uptown 1 trains skip 225th Street, 231st Street and 238th Street due to track panel installation north of 225th Street between 3:45 a.m. Saturday and 9 p.m. Sunday, the MTA said.

And the last stop for some uptown 1 trains will be 137th Street from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, due to track panel installation north of 225th Street in The Bronx.

No 2 trains will run between 3rd Avenue-149th Street and 96th Street due to station work at 149th Street-Grand concourse, track maintenance at 96th Street and tunnel lighting in the Harlem River tube, between Friday at 11:30 p.m. and Monday at 5 a.m., the MTA said. Downtown 2 trains will run locally between 96th Street and Times Square-42nd Street during the same time.

Free shuttle buses operate:

  • Non-stop – Between 96th Street and 3rd Avenue-149th Street
  • Local – Between 96th Street and 3rd Avenue-149th Street

During this time, 2 trains will operate in two sections:

  • Between 241st Street and 3rd Avenue-149th Street
  • Between 96th Street and Flatbush Avenue

Service is suspended on the 3 train due to station work at 149th Street-Grand Concourse, track maintenance at 96th Street and tunnel lighting in the Harlem River tube.

The 2 train line will make all 3 station stops between 96th Street and Franklin Avenue, and 4 trains make all 3 station stops between Franklin Avenue and New Lots Avenue from 11:30 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Free shuttle buses operates as a local between 96th Street and 148th Street. 

Service on the 4 train is extended to New Lots Avenue and operates as a local in Brooklyn due to work on the 2, 3 and 5 lines from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Overnight on the 4 train, downtown 4 trains run express from 125th Street to Grand Central-42nd Street due to track work near 96th Street and 103rd Street Friday 11:45 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Saturday; from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 6:30 a.m. Sunday; and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

No 5 trains run between East 180th Street and 149th Street-Grand Concourse due to station work at 149th Street-Grand Concourse, track maintenance at 96th Street and tunnel lighting in the Harlem River tube from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. A free shuttle bus operates across 149th Street between 3rd Avenue-149th Street and 149th Street-Grand Concourse. 

No. 5 train service operates in two sections:

  • Between Dyre Avenue and East 180th Street
  • Between 149th Street-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green (every 20 minutes)

Note: 5 trains from Manhattan skip 138th Street-Grand Concourse, so take the 4 instead.

Downtown 6 trains run express from 125th Street to Grand Central-42nd Street due to track work near 96th Street and 103rd Street from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

There is no 7 train service between Times Square-42nd Street and Queensboro Plaza due to Flushing Line work from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Customers may take the E, N, Q and S (42nd Street shuttle) and free shuttle buses as alternatives.

  • Use the E, N or Q between Manhattan and Queens
  • Free shuttle buses operate between Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue and Queensboro Plaza
  • In Manhattan, the 42nd Street S Shuttle operates overnight

Uptown C trains run express from Canal Street to 145th Street due to electrical work at 47th-50th Streets between 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

There is no Bronx-bound D service at 34th Street-Herald Square, 42nd Street-Bryant Park, 47th-50th- Sts and 7th Avenue due to electrical work at 47th-50th Streets from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Queens-bound E trains run express from Queens Plaza to Roosevelt Avenue due to track renewal north of 36th Street overnight 12:15 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and 12:15 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday.

Queens-bound F trains are rerouted via the M line from 47th-50th Streets to Queens Plaza due to station work at Lexington Avenue-63rd Street between 9:45 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.

Service is suspended on the M train due to station work at Fresh Pond Road, Forest, Seneca, Knickerbocker and Central Avenues. Free shuttle buses operate between Metropolitan Avenue and Myrtle Avenue, making all station stops from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Brooklyn-bound N trains run express from 34th Street-Herald Square to Canal Street due to track maintenance at 8th Street from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Q trains are extended to Ditmars Boulevard to augment service between Manhattan and Queens.

Queens-bound R trains run express from Queens Plaza to Roosevelt Avenue due to track renewal north of 36th Street from 6:30 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

Brooklyn-bound R trains run express from 34th Street-Herald Square to Canal Street due to track maintenance at 8th Street between 6:30 a.m. and midnight, Saturday and Sunday.

The S (42nd Street Shuttle)  runs overnight from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday due to weekend work on the 7 line.
