'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Set to Film at Chinatown's Nom Wah Tea Parlor

CHINATOWN — Filming for the "Amazing Spider-Man 2" is set to take place in the Nom Wah Tea Parlor and is expected to shut down much of Doyers Street on Friday.

The restaurant, which opened as a bakery in 1920 at another location, will shut down for all of Friday as film crews move in from 10 p.m. on Thursday night.

The movie sequel, based on the Marvel comic book character and directed by Marc Webb, will star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Jamie Foxx and is due to be released in April next year.

"Locals should kinda not come unless they want to see the movie set," said Wilson Tang, the tea parlor's owner. "We will be shut down for the day."

This isn't Nom Wah Tea Parlor's first staring role in a flick.  Scenes from movies such as "Reversal of Fortune," "Premium Rush," "All Good Things, Quid Pro Quo," "Third Rock" and T.V shows such as  "Law and Order" and "Smash" have also enlisted the restaurant as a set.

Tang said most of the business along the tiny Doyers Street — mostly eateries, bars and hair salons — will be closed. The dogleg Doyers Street connects with Pell Street and the Bowery two blocks below Canal Street.

As for food, Tang said the film crew will bring their usual catering service and will not be taking advantage of some of Nom Wah's dishes such as shrimp and snow pea leaf dumplings or even chicken feet.

Tang said most of the street's businesses are being compensated for the films inconvenient.
