Wink Store, Cafe and Gallery Opening in Former Pink Tea Cup Spot

By Andrea Swalec | February 21, 2013 7:33am

WEST VILLAGE — From pink to Wink.

The former location of the soul food institution the Pink Tea Cup, located on Seventh Avenue South just north of Bleecker Street, will soon reopen as a three-story outpost of the trendy local clothing and accessories chain Wink.

This 6,250-square-foot location, Wink's fourth in Manhattan, will have its own cafe and will sell home goods and one-of-a-kind art on its upper levels using the name Bleecker Street Arts Club, owner Stephen Werther said Wednesday.

"It's going to be a lot like our other stores and more," he said. "It's a home furnishings, fine art and art objects business that will combine high-end, design-focused home furnishings with gallery-quality artwork."

Prices will range from a few hundred dollars for the objets d'art and climb to $40,000 for fine art pieces.

Set to open in early March, the new Wink location, with a main entrance at 305 Bleecker St., just east of the British clothing store Reiss, and a second entrance around the corner at 88 Seventh Ave. South, will serve coffee, tea and "little bites" on its ground floor.

"It will be a high-tea experience," Werther said.

Wink opened its first Manhattan retail location in 2005.

The original Pink Tea Cup at 42 Grove St. closed in December 2009 after 55 years there. The Seventh Avenue South location opened in June 2010 and later closed. The most recent incarnation of the restaurant is located at 538 Sixth Ave., just north of West 14th Street.
