Queens Spa Shaves Prices on Brazilian Waxes for Valentine's Day

SUNNYSIDE — What's more painful than dining alone on Valentine's Day?

A Brazilian bikini wax — but at least this one's a bargain.

A Queens salon is offering a number of deals in honor of Valentine's Day, including a "Love Hurts" waxing special to help those customers anticipating a special night.

"On Valentine's Day, they want to feel special," said manager Jennifer Stravino. "They come in here and we make them feel special."

Pure Spa and Salon, at 40-15 Queens Blvd. in Sunnyside, will throw in a free waxing treatment for clients who sign up for a package of eight sessions during February, in addition to deals on other beauty rituals, like facials and make-up applications, just in time for the romantic holiday.

With the "Kiss and Make Up," special, you can look your best for your big date by getting your make-up put on by a pro for $60, which includes complementary false eyelashes.

Couples looking to get pampered together can sign up for one hour side-by-side full body massages and complementary champagne for $200 in one of the salon's private and candlelit massage rooms, or they can opt for "The Quickie" massage, a 45-minute session that runs $80 a person.

If you're pressed for a gift idea for your sweetheart, Pure is offering a $40 Valentine's manicure and pedicure special, an hourlong pampering session complete with strawberries and bubbly.

"Gift certificates for massages, gift certificates for facials," Stravino said, of what's been in demand at the salon this week. "They're planning these spa days, really going all out."

For first-timers who might be wary of getting a wax, Stravino says not to worry, explaining Pure's staff of spa workers are professionals who do everything they can to make the experience as painless as possible.

"They're in good hands," she said.

Pure is one of several Sunnyside businesses offering specials for the holiday in an effort to encourage residents to shop locally, including deals on prix-fixe dinners, floral arrangements, jewelry and other gifts.

"It’s possible to completely shop and dine locally in the neighborhood this Valentine’s Day," said Rachel Thieme, executive director of the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District.
