STATEN ISLAND — Parents concerned about their children's education are being invited to join a council overseeing Staten Island's schools.

Those with children at elementary and middle school can apply for election to Community Education Council 31, which oversees the whole borough. Parents of high schoolers can apply for a seat on the Citywide Council of High Schools.

Members will advise education department chancellor Dennis Walcott on issues such as evaluation of school programs and zonings.

Applications for seats on the council will be accepted until March 13. They can be made online.
