NEW YORK CITY — The Big Apple's going to the dogs.
The famed Westminster Dog Show is set to wag into Manhattan early next week, despite Winter Storm Nemo.
A message posted on the Westminster Kennel Club's website says that the show will go on beginning Monday Feb. 11, despite the foot of snow that was dumped on the city Friday night.
"In the tradition of all good dog shows, the show will go on," the message said. "Travel safe and we look forward to seeing you on Monday, February 11th & Tuesday, February 12th when the weather forecast is clear and in the low 40s."
The daytime portion of the show will be held at Pier 92 and 94 on the Hudson River for the first time while the nighttime portion of the show will be held at Madison Square Garden, as usual.
This move allows us to return to the true benching of our dogs, something that makes us a bit unique in the dog show world," the show said in a brochure. "Even in the vast expanse of more than 200,000 square feet of exhibition space, you will now be able to easily find particular dogs, owners and handlers, and visit with them “up close and personal.”
New to the show this year are the Russell Terrier and the Treeing Walker Coonhound, a dog that was bred to track wild raccoons.
