Woman Raped a Block From Brooklyn College, Police Say

By Jess Wisloski | February 3, 2013 12:22pm

FLATBUSH — A 22-year-old woman was attacked Saturday morning one block away from Brooklyn College's campus, police said.

A man in his mid-20s approached the victim at 9:45 a.m. in the vicinity of Glenwood Road and East 27th Street, one block's walk from Campus Road, which encircles the 13,000-student campus.

The man then forcibly pulled the victim into an alleyway before raping her, police said. Afterwards, he took all her personal property and fled in an unknown direction, police said.

A spokesman for Brooklyn College said that campus security had not received any information about the crime, leading him to believe the victim was not a student.

"I haven't seen the report, and our security director is typically contacted by precincts when things would occur," said spokesman Ernesto Mora.

"We are deeply troubled to learn of this terrible incident and will do everything in our power, in cooperation with the proper authorities, to prevent such incidents in the future," he said.

"We have tight security and we treat the safety of our students as a priority."

On Sunday cops released a video of a man they believe is the suspect, described as 5-foot-6 or 7, and 160 pounds, with a medium build and bald head. The suspect was last seen in a blue Yankees baseball cap with a white brim, and wearing a dark grey jacket.
