THE BRONX — A 9-year-old boy fell five stories from a Bronx rooftop Friday evening, officials said.
The child tumbled from the building at Nelson Avenue and Featherbed Lane about 8:30 p.m., the FDNY said. On Saturday police arrested and charged a young man, 17, with attempted murder, cops said.
Casmine Aska, 17, who lived at 1545 Nelson Ave., where the fall took place, was arrested as the young victim clung to life at Columbia University Medical Center, officials said
The 9-year-old suffered multiple injuries and severe body trauma, and was in critical condition on Sunday, police said.
Neighbor Gina Ortiz, 30, a security officer, said she noticed something going on when she saw the lights of ambulances flashing through her windows when rescuers arrived on Friday.
"I looked out and saw the kid laying on the sidewalk," she said. "His head was swollen real bad and he was bleeding from his left side. He was crying, moaning and asking for his mom."
"He's a good kid, very hyperactive, and I seem him running up and down the stairs all the time."
Police told the NY Daily News that the victim told police he had been dragged from his home on the fourth floor by the 17-year-old, and pitched off the roof, before the boy lost consciousness.
Cops found evidence of the struggle, and the victim was put on life support at the hospital, according to the News.
