UPPER WEST SIDE — For Sale: 1 couch, lightly used by 100,000 tourists. Former owner discovered America.
The Public Art Fund is hosting an online garage sale for the carefully-selected furniture and accessories used as part of the "Discovering Columbus" exhibit — in which artist Tatzu Nishi temporarily surrounded the statue at Columbus Circle with a six-story tall, fully-furnished living room.
Among the items on sale at Artspace.com are a $20 candlestick holder, a $1,950 sofa that stood adjacent to Columbus, and a $2,700 Maria Yee media console.
The items, which are steeply marked down from their original prices, sustained a fair bit of wear and tear during the 10-week extended exhibit this fall, drawing more than 100,000 people.
The website hawking the goods was so popular Tuesday morning, it briefly crashed after the sale was announced.
All proceeds from the sale go to the Public Art Fund.
