Lunch Hour Food Trucks Warm Up Bryant Park-Goers for Winter

By Mathew Katz | January 25, 2013 1:52pm

MIDTOWN — There's nothing like a little souvlaki on a cold winter's day.

Just in time for the season's cold snap, a new batch of food trucks will pull up to Bryant Park on weekdays as part of the park's mission to bring a fresh variety of hot food to visitors and area office workers.

The trucks will each be given a special spot outside of the New York Public Library, at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 40th Street, to serve up comfort food from around the globe.

A different truck will dish out lunches every day of the week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They arrived on Monday and will stay for a yet-to-be-determined amount of time, officials said.

Mexicue's fusion cuisine is available Mondays, the Milk Truck's gourmet grilled cheese can be had on Tuesdays, Nucha brings empanadas to the mix on Wednesdays, Chinese Mirch will serve up baos on Thursdays, and Souvlaki GR brings a taset of Greece to Fifth Avenue on Fridays.

Food trucks first debuted at the spot over the summer, much to the delight of hungry crowds. A spokeswoman for the park said she hopes to see a similar response in the cold, adding that all of the vendors' eats are packaged to go.

The trucks are there as part of the New York Public Library's Lunch Hour NYC, an exhibit that looks back on over 150 years of New York power lunches.
