FOREST HILLS — A person was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train at the Forest Hills station during rush hour on Monday evening, officials said.

The person was struck by a westbound train at the station, at 71st Avenue and Burns Street, about 6 p.m., the MTA said.

The victim, who appeared to have jumped onto the tracks, was pronounced dead at the scene, the NYPD said.

After the incident, westbound LIRR trains were still delayed up to 45 minutes and eastbound trains were delayed up to 15 minutes, the MTA said on its website. Westbound trains were skipping the Kew Gardens, Forest Hills and Woodside stations, the MTA said.

Normal service resumed by about 9 p.m. Monday.
