MARINERS HARBOR — A 72-year-old motorist died after crashing into a tree on Orincoco Place Wednesday, police said.

The unidentified man was behind the wheel of a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe when about 4:45 p.m. the vehicle slammed into the tree near Erastina Place, according to the NYPD.

Emergency responders found him unconscious and took him to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Authorities believe the driver had pulled out of a nearby driveway and then sped north on Erastina, eventually plowing through a fence and into a tree at Orinoco Place, police said.

Police don't suspect any criminality was involved in the accident.
