WILLIAMSBURG — Brooklynites can claim one more slice of shoreline with the opening of Bushwick Inlet Park's new grassy extension to the East River.
The North 9th Street park's waterfront section — which opened Dec. 6 according to a Parks Department spokeswoman — includes a sloped lawn, rocks, plantings, benches, lights and full views of the Manhattan skyline on sunny days.
Local residents and politicians have long fought for the seaside space — part of the city's 30 acres of pledged Williamsburg parkland in 2005 — to open to the public.
Laura Treciokas, co-chairwoman of the advocacy group Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park, called the open section a "tasty nibble" of the full scope of the project.
"We're excited there's one more sliver of our waterfront that's publicly accessible," she said.
But Treciokas maintained that the city still had yet to deliver on its full parkland promise made as part of the neighborhood's 2005 residential and commercial zoning.
"We still want to know where is the rest of the 28-acre park [Mayor Michael] Bloomberg promised us as part of the massive rezoning of our neighborhood?" said Treciokas, a Greenpoint resident who has told DNAinfo.com she relies on parks for her 1-year-old daughter's recreation.
The Parks Department declined comment on neighbors' complaints over the undeveloped land.
