EAST FLATBUSH — The NYPD is offering a $12,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who gunned down and killed a Brownsville mom behind Brookdale Hospital earlier this week, police announced Thursday.

Cops are still investigating the killing of Shalema Gaskin, 32, who was shot in the neck early Tuesday morning while visiting her 8-year-old daughter, who had suffered an asthma attack.

The NYPD is offering $10,000 for tips leading to an arrest and conviction in the case, and Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment, police said.

There are differing accounts of the details of Gaskin's death. Some sources say she was leaving the hospital briefly when she was shot, and others say she was returning to her daughter's bedside.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said at an unrelated news conference Thursday that Gaskin had purchased some items at store near the hospital about 2:05 a.m.

Kelly added that it was likely the assailant had fired from close range. A .380-caliber bullet was found on the street right next to Gaskin's body, Kelly said.
