CHELSEA — Lindsay Lohan was arrested early Thursday after slugging a woman in the face at a 10th Avenue nightclub, according to the NYPD.
Cops took the "Mean Girls" actress into custody about 4 a.m. after she attacked the woman at the club, Avenue, located at 116 10th Ave., police said.
The alleged victim, Tiffany Eve Mitchell, 28, claimed the troubled actress knocked her to the ground with a strong blow to the left side of her face, police sources said.
Mitchell "suffered swelling and substantial pain to the face," sources said. She refused medical attention, police said.
Lohan has been charged with assault and was processed in the 10th Precinct stationhouse.
Wearing a tight green dress and black high heels, Lohan — her face covered by a dark jacket — hurried out of the stationhouse to a waiting black SUV about 7:40 a.m.
"Get out of the car!" Lohan screamed at a man in the vehicle who works with her. "Get out of the car!"
The man hopped out of the SUV before it sped off east toward Seventh Avenue.
Lohan received a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 11, sources said.
The fisticuffs erupted after another fight broke out near the VIP section, where Lohan and the Mitchell — who was with husband Wayne Stevens and another couple, Lisa Mitchell and Steve Blake, 37 — were seated at separate tables, police sources said.
To steer clear of the melee, Mitchell stood up and backed away from her table and, unbeknownst to her, toward Lohan's table, sources said.
That's when Lohan — who sources said was not drunk at the time — reportedly lost her cool.
"Give me some space," Lohan told the victim, according to gossip website TMZ.
As Mitchell was returning to her table, Lohan shoved her from behind and sucker punched in face, sources said.
The club's security promptly escorted Mitchell from the club while Stevens called 911, sources said.
Swarms of cops — more so than usual because the call came from a club — raced to Avenue and spotted Lohan ducking out from a side exit and rushing toward a waiting SUV.
Nearby, cops asked Mitchell who slugged her.
"That's her over there," she said, pointing to Lohan.
That's when cops slapped cuffs on the starlet and walked to a squad car.
"Are you kidding?" Lohan can be heard crying in an TMZ video. "Oh my God, are you kidding?"
Lohan's assistant said the starlet has been targeted because of her celebrity status.
"It's become a pastime to use her name and fame and blame things on her," Lohan's assistant said outside of the stationhouse while she was being processed.
Stevens, Mitchell's husband, said the couple was unaware that the assailant was Lohan until club security refused to call the cops, citing the starlet's fame.
"Nobody wanted to help...so I went and called the police myself," Stevens told reporters Thursday afternoon through the intercom of an Upper East Side building. "I couldn't understand why the bouncers weren't throwing her out after she punched my wife right in front of them."
Stevens added that his wife is "very overwhelmed."
"She's all mind-boggled right now," Stevens said. "Her cheek is a little swollen. She's pretty aggravated."
Avenue released a statement saying the club is cooperating with police and all questions should be directed to the NYPD.
The arrest is the latest run-in with the law for Lohan.
Most recently, she was arrested in September for an apparent hit-and-run outside a Meatpacking District club. Those charges were later dropped.
In another September incident, Lohan told cops she was choked by a man after the two got into a fight about photos he had taken of her.
Avenue, where Thursday's fight occurred, had temporarily banned the "Freaky Friday" star in 2009 when she tweeted about Justin Timberlake dancing with a woman there who was not his girlfriend, according to the New York Post.
She was allowed back into the hotspot after promising to be on her best behavior, the Post reported.
The actress recently tried to revive her sagging career with a starring role in a biopic about the life of Elizabeth Taylor, but the movie was largely panned by critics and fans alike.
