Bay Ridge Blaze Sends Five to Hospital

By Jess Wisloski | November 24, 2012 11:10am

BAY RIDGE — A fire that broke out Friday afternoon left four rescuers injured and left a man seriously injured with burns on his hands, officials said.

The blaze broke out on the fourth floor of a six-story building at 343 101st Street in Bay Ridge. Twelve fire trucks responded to the fire, which appeared to be coming from a corner apartment in photographs of the incident.

Sixty firefighters battled the flames, and four were injured in the process — all of them rushed to Lutheran Medical Center with minor injuries.

One occupant of the apartment was rescued, fire officials said, and was in serious but stable condition Saturday with burns on his hands, officials said.

The cause for the fire is unknown, but being investigated by the fire marshall, officials said.

The flames were under control by 3:17 p.m., said an FDNY spokesman.
