UNION SQUARE — A 24-year-old man riding a skateboard was struck and killed by a delivery truck on Broadway Tuesday, the FDNY and witnesses said.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was hit near East 17th Street about 11:15 a.m.

The truck's driver, a 35-year-old man who declined to provide his name, said the victim crossed paths with the vehicle while trying to jump from the sidewalk to the street.

"He was on the sidewalk, and suddenly he came out," the driver said.

That's when the truck slammed into the victim, witnesses said.

"He was lying there with his face down," said Leonel Betances, manager of Republic Think Noodle on Union Square West near East 17th Street. "He was alive but he didn't look good. A lot of blood was coming out of his mouth."

The skateboarder was rushed to Beth Israel Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.

Cops said the driver remained on scene and was not immediately charged or issued any summonses.

The truck is owned by Bronx-based C.S. Brown Company Inc., which sells and delivers hardware, electrical, plumbing and janitorial supplies.

A manager for C.S. Brown confirmed that one of its trucks was involved in the collision, but declined to elaborate.
