NYPD Cop Arrested for Lying About Botched Home Invasion

By Aidan Gardiner | November 15, 2012 2:05pm

NEW YORK CITY — An NYPD cop who told authorities he was stabbed during a botch robbery in his Jamaica home in September has been arrested for falsifying records stemming from the bogus episode, police said.

Police Officer Rishi Gobin, who has five years on the job, was arrested and charged with first-degree falsifying business records, police said.

Gobin told investigators he was stabbed in the abdomen on September 12 after chasing a would-be burglar from his home at 103-12 170th St.

But the next day, the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau began an investigation into the incident, citing inconsistent details in the case, sources told DNAinfo.com New York.

Investigators weren’t able to find any surveillance footage documenting the incident, they said. It also appeared that the stabbing occurred within his home and not on the street, as he had claimed, the sources added.

The knife appeared to have missed all of Gobin’s vital organs, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters after the incident.

Gobin was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in critical condition and could not answer investigators' questions about the incident because he was sedated at the time.
