How to Find Gas in New York City After Sandy

By Tom Liddy | November 5, 2012 3:22pm

NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers braving giant gas lines might be running on fumes after the massive shortage caused by Hurricane Sandy, but there are some online resources available to help motorists find out where to fill up.

Here are some ways to get help at the pump amid the crunch:

♦ Hess is sending out periodic updates telling drivers which of its gas stations still have gas and where. The list can be accessed on Hess's Facebook page.

♦ Gasbuddy.com provides a fuel shortage tracker where motorists can search by ZIP code for stations that still have fuel.

♦ AAA has compiled a list of gas stations that were open as of 10 a.m. on Monday Nov. 5.

"Long lines for gasoline continue to be a problem in some areas damaged by Hurricane Sandy," the  automotive organization said in a message on its website. "We are hopeful that the situation will improve over the next few days as power is restored and more stations and distribution centers open for business."

The AAA list for New York City can be found here.

♦ Motorists can also turn to Twitter and search for hashtags such as #nygas, #nycgas and #brooklyngas, according to Reuters.

Those looking to find gas in New Jersey will encounter rationing in a dozen counties. Those with odd-numbered license plates will be allowed to get fuel on odd-numbered days of the month.

Those with even plate numbers will be served on even days, according to reports.
