PHOTOS: NYC Reels in Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

NEW YORK CITY - As Hurricane Sandy's death toll continues to climb in New York City, images of destroyed homes, devastated businesses and shattered communities tell the most acurate story of the havoc the storm wrought across all five boroughs.

More than a quarter-million people from Coney Island to Westchester were left without power, a massive fire decimated 80 homes in Breezy Point in the Rockaways, and record flooding washed away entire cars and left boats on the street, authorities said.

"Sadly, this storm claimed the lives of people throughout the region," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at a press conference Tuesday. "And tragically, we expect that number to go up as information continues to come in."
