Father Arrested in Mother and Infant Deaths in Bronx

THE BRONX — Police arrested the biological father in the death of a 1-month old girl, who died after she was rescued from a Bronx apartment that had been set ablaze on Thursday.

The suspect, Eligidio Lind, 21, of Central Harlem, was also charged in the murder of the girl's mother, Luisa Rodriguez, 32, who was found dead on her bed, with blunt force trauma to her head and stab wounds in her body, in the fourth-floor Kingsbridge apartment.

Rodriguez's body had a mattress thrown on top of it, officials said, that was then set on fire.

Firefighters found the unconscious infant, Angela, in a bathtub in the 3034 Albany Crescent apartment, the NY Daily News reported. Lind had beaten Rodriguez to death, then stabbed her with a machete, the paper reported.

The infant, Angela, later died at Montefiore Medical Center.

Police found Lind hiding out at a girlfriend's apartment on Friday, the News wrote, and discovered cut marks all over his hands.

Lind faces two counts of murder, arson, and manslaughter each, as well as criminal posession of a weapon, police said.
