Courtney Love to Host Halloween Carnival at MoMA PS1

By Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska | October 25, 2012 5:32pm

LONG ISLAND CITY — Hunters Point will get a glimpse of some celebrity skin this Sunday when Courtney Love comes to MoMA PS1 to host the museum's first annual artists’ Halloween parade and a costume contest inspired by the seven deadly sins.

The event kicks off at 3 p.m. with a three-hour-long costume workshop where dozens of artists, including film maker Tommy Hartung, painter Peter Mandradjieff and sculptor Hrafnhildur Arnardottir aka Shoplifter, will help participants make and decorate their costumes.

Spooky inspiration videos by Ryan McNamara, Samuel Clagnaz, Michael Stickrod and Anne Eastman will be presented, followed by a parade around MoMA PS1 with Bloco Gumbo, a Caribbean marching band.

After the parade, there will be a costume contest. Love and the museum’s director and event co-host Klaus Biesenbach will pick the best outfits, according to categories inspired by the seven deadly sins, including ‘gluttony’ (best group costume), ‘greed’ (best low budget costume), and ‘wrath’ (most socially inappropriate).

The Halloween carnival will end with a party with music by Mykki Blanco, Gatekeeper DJs, Zach Cole and Jon Santos.

Tickets ($10) are available online at momaps1.org or at the museum the day of the event. To get more info, go here.
