Jay-Z Surprises Fans by Riding Subway to Barclays Center for Concert

BROOKLYN — He turned the R train into the J/Z line this weekend.

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z decided to hop on the subway Saturday to commute to his concert at the Barclays Center.

The rap icon, who designed the Nets logo and owns a tiny share of the team, rode the R train from Canal Street to Atlantic Avenue for the final of his eight shows to christen the new arena.

Straphangers were unsurprisingly shocked by the sudden appearance by the superstar.

"So I'm in the train station minding my own business and Jay Z walks by." tweeted @ACondemand. "Wtf."

Flanked by security, media and screaming fans, Jay made his way onto the crowded train, finding a seat next to a straphanger with whom he struck up a conversation.

He then strolled into the center while fans ran up to take pictures and video.

Fellow Brooklyn original Barbra Striesand is set to play the new arena on Thursday.
