Two People Arrested for Possession of Weapons and an Alligator

BROOKLYN - A man and woman in Brooklyn were arrested Monday for possession of weapons and controlled substances — and for having a pet alligator.

Michael Volpe, 32, and Alisa Volpe, 25, of West 6th Street in Gravesend, were arrested after a search warrant uncovered two loaded hand guns and one loaded shotgun, as well as unidentified controlled substances and an alligator roughly 3 feet long.

Police sources told DNAinfo.com New York that the alligator "didn't look very good" when police arrived. Cops called the Center for Avian and Exotic Medicine on the Upper West Side, which came to take the animal away.

The center did not immediately return a call for comment. It also wasn't immediately clear how the police were called.

Sources said the search warrant was executed at 5822 16th Avenue, just a few miles from the couple's apartment.
