New Development to Offer Bushwick 'Best Rents in a Long Time'

By Meredith Hoffman | September 20, 2012 2:38pm

BUSHWICK — A new development headed to Broadway will offer the neighborhood its "best rents in a long time," Bushwick's Community Board Four members announced Wednesday night.

The mixed-use development, including 31 apartment units and a ground floor with a Dollar Tree and other retail spaces, is slated for 839 — 845 Broadway by Park Avenue, the developer's representative Kenneth Olsen said at the board's meeting.

"It will include bike storage, recycling, and likely a green roof with potential for an urban farm," said Olsen, representing Poko Partners, which has developed affordable housing around the city.

The Bushwick complex will include five one-bedroom apartments starting at $564 per month, 20 two-bedroom units starting at $685 per month, and six three-bedroom apartments starting at $885 rent.

And to Nadine Whitted, District Manager of Community Board Four and a longtime Bushwick resident, the plan offered a bit of respite from the neighborhood's skyrocketing prices.

"These are the best rents I've heard about in a long time," Whitted said, noting that many local residents were in need of such deals.

Olsen said that half of the units would be specifically for residents living within Bushwick's Community Board Four. He did not state a completion time for the project.
