Eco-Friendly Gym Hopes to Quench Workout Thirst With Booze

BUSHWICK — Looking for the perfect way to quench your post-Pilates, spin class, or boxing thirst? An eco-friendly gym is hoping to offer an alternative to the detox smoothie.

The environmentally conscious Green Fitness Studio — a multi-level gym with recycled workout equipment, a grass-covered roof, classes from capoeira to yoga, personal training and a spa — is vying for a liquor license to host booze-filled shindigs in the health mecca, staff said.

"We're having parties in the space," said Sebastian Almada, a manager at the studio, speaking about rooftop social gatherings the gym holds.

Almada said that they had already begun renting the space to promoters with their own liquor permits like Black Market NYC, but that the gym wanted its own permit. He did not say whether the gym hoped to serve liquor during gym hours.

The gym's current non-alcoholic drink selection is served in its downstairs Verde Yogurt Shoppe, with a juice bar that offers an array of concoctions like the kale-and-cucumber "Wicked Witch of East Bushwick" and vegan protein shakes like the strawberry-banana-soy "Wonder Woman."

"Green Fitness Studio and Verde Juice Bar work in tandem to promote total mind and body fitness while protecting the environment," its website says.

"We believe nutrition plays an integral role in health and fitness."
