Doggie Fashion Show to Feature NYC's Most Stylish Pooches

By Mathew Katz | September 5, 2012 10:36am

CHELSEA — Forget the catwalk — this Fashion Week is going to the dogs.

Stylish canines from across the city will get the chance to strut their stuff Wednesday for a chance to win $2,000 in gift cards as part of the annual doggie fashion show "Furry Friends on the Runway."

The event, at the Ritz Plaza Park on West 48th St., will show off the latest pet apparel by Royal Pooch, a fashion-forward pet clothing and accessory designer that's created mesh T-shirts, raincoats and puffer coats for man's best friend.

The furry fashonistas will show off these latest looks as part of a free fashion show, with the most stylish hounds winning gift cards for Unleashed, Petco's smaller chain of local shops. Attendees can also enjoy complimentary prosecco — and dog biscuits for their four-legged guests.

"'Furry Friends on the Runway' is just the ticket New York needs to combine fashion, entertainment and man's best friend during one of the most exciting times of the year," said Michael Stern, creative director at Stonehenge, the property company that's hosting the fashion show.

Unlike the world of human fashion, heftier hounds need not be shy about showing off at the show, as Stonehenge allows dogs up to 50 pounds on their property.

Entry to the show is free, and visitors can RSVP online. Owners wishing to register their pooch for the fashion show can do so at the event.
