DJ's Music-Themed Luxury Hotel Opens in Sunset Park

By Alan Neuhauser | August 27, 2012 7:52am

SUNSET PARK — Dim the lights, crank the tunes and fluff the pillows: Sunset Park's music-themed, DJ-owned boutique hotel has opened its doors to revelers from around the world.

Hotel BPM, named for the music term "beats per minute," started its soft launch earlier this month, renting a portion of its 76 rooms in a lead-up to its grand opening next month, the hotel announced.

"It is amazing to see the hotel coming together day-by-day in our soft-opening phase," DJ BIJAL, né Bijal Panwala, said in the statement. "It's just like the final production stage, where you lock yourself into a studio and go over every detail and sound to make sure it's perfect and exactly how your want the world to hear it."

Hotel BPM has an eye-catching design, including LED lights mounted on the awning that that move in sync with music.

The hotel features plush beds, rainfall showers, gourmet breakfasts, top-of-the-line linens, soaps, and shampoos, and a host of music-themed touches. Nonstop tunes pipe through Bose speakers in the lobby, bar and every room of the hotel (a volume dial is mounted next to each room's light switches), and guests can add favorite songs to the playlist when they book their rooms.

DJs, including Panwala, will also spin live in the lobby every Friday and Saturday night, performances the hotel is calling "DJ's Rule the World."

The hotel is located at 139 33rd St. Room rates start at $209 a night.
