QUEENS — Skeletal remains were discovered on the grounds of LaGuardia Airport on Monday, authorities said.

A crime scene was established at the site, but it wasn't known whether the remains were human, said Chris Valens, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, which runs the airport.

The bones were discovered in a secure area that the public doesn't have access to, on the shore line of the bay that surrounds the airport, Valens said.

The Medical Examiner's office removed the skeletal remains late Monday and transported them to a lab for analysis, Valens said.
