HELL’S KITCHEN — Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott just completed the Central Park Triathlon, where he swam, biked and ran his way to a third place finish in his age group.

But the fitness buff was felled by a much less daunting foe this weekend when he tripped while walking to the gym, dislocating his middle finger.

“I thought it was broken initially because of the way it looked," he said.

"I’ve never seen it look like that. I mean, I heard it,” said Walcott, whose left hand wrapped in white bandages and a splint Monday.

“And that’s after doing a triathlon without any injuries at all," he said, referring to last week's race.

The athletic schools chief said he was on his way to the gym early Saturday morning for a run when he tripped outside.

“I fell,” he said. “I broke my fall with my hand.

“You want the gross details? So this middle finger was really located over to my pinkie,” he said, gesturing across his hand  “Literally, I’m not joking... It was off where it should have been."

Walcott drove himself to the emergency room.
