EAST FLATBUSH — The Brooklyn man who was found stabbed to death in the kitchen of his apartment over the weekend, was remembered Tuesday as quiet and friendly neighbor who cooked at a local Caribbean restaurant.

“He was a tall nice boy, a gentlemen,” Roy Wedderburn said of the victim, Aaron Campbell, 23. “I’m devastated.”

Wedderburn, who lives below the three-bedroom apartment at 1267 New York Ave. where Campbell lived, said the victim had been renting the apartment since January.

He had been working nights as a cook at a local Caribbean restaurant, and rarely went out during the day.

Wedderburn’s son, who did not want to be named, said Campbell's family was from Trinidad, and that his mother arrived on Saturday afternoon.

“She broke down emotionally,” he said. “It was very sad.”

Campbell was stabbed in the chest and the arm and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police took a man who lives in the building into custody Saturday afternoon but he was not immediately charged.

Neighbors said the man being questioned was one of Campbell’s three roommates, and that he was standing outside the apartment when the authorities arrived.

“He was standing on the porch,” said Abu Sybl, 28, a neighbor. “I saw the man putting on a shirt and it had blood on it.”

Wedderburn described the man in question as a problem tenant, and that he was scheduled to be evicted from the apartment on Wednesday for failure to pay rent and for numerous noise violations.
