Donovan's Pub Up For Sale in Woodside

WOODSIDE — Donovan’s Pub, a popular Irish restaurant in Woodside that is famous for its burgers and affordable prices, may be serving its last pint after nearly 50 years as a neighborhood mainstay.

The site — on Roosevelt Avenue and 58th Street — is up for sale for $3.2 million, according to the online ad posted by Massey Knakal Realty Services, which says the property consists of the pub and a dress shop.

Sources said that the owner, Joe Donovan, was looking to retire from the Zagat-rated watering hole, which has been around for almost five decades.

The place has tons of regulars. John Harnett, 79, of Woodside, has been coming there almost every day for 30 years.

If Donovan's Pub closes, "I’d be homeless,” said Harnett, a retired LIRR employee who on Monday afternoon was sipping a pint of Smithwick’s. “The food and the service are great here."

Customers also said Donovan’s Pub offered reasonable prices that were not easy to find in the area. A burgers costs $8.50 and a pint is $5.

The Times Newsweekly, which first reported the story, noted that the buyer would have the option to purchase the business and run it.
