Police to Etch Bikes Outside McCarren Pool to Combat Theft

WILLIAMSBURG — Cops are asking local cyclists to bring their bikes outside McCarren Pool Saturday to be marked with identification codes in case of theft.

Police from the 94th Precinct will be stationed outside the pool 11 a.m. — 2 p.m. to do free etchings — marking the undersides of bike frames with unique codes — for anyone who attends, officers said.

The 94th Precinct's commanding officer Deputy Inspector Terence Hurson highly encouraged people to get their bikes etched to help identify and retrieve the two-wheelers if stolen.

Riders who can't attend Saturday's event can call the precinct's Crime Prevention Officer at 718-383-5298 to set up an etching appointment, Hurson said.
